Social Media and Loneliness
A little time off social media can go a long way right nowβ¨
After a tough week (letβs all give a warm welcome to the most mercury of retrogrades π), I took some time off social this weekend. Yes it was amazing but most importantly I need to remember to do it more and make it a more active part of my wellness routine. Who can relate?
I adore social media of course.... itβs my way to connect with all of you around the world, itβs where I find inspiration from female entrepreneurs, fashion bloggers and recipe gurus & most importantly itβs where I can share what has helped me. But like anything else in life, BALANCE is the key to a beautiful relationship with anything.
Not sure if youβre spending too much time on social... well for me here is what that might look like:
π finding myself comparing where Iβm at (career, life, fitness) to others ALL the time
π noticing, reacting and internalizing peopleβs hurtful/judgemental comments
π an overall decline in mental health
π feeling reactive and not in control
π lost on a spiritual path claiming there is no time for meditation or gratitude
π feeling more alone than ever....
Then maybe like me you might need a break too. That doesnβt need to mean tuning out for a week. It can simply mean BOUNDARIES. One of the most beautiful words the past few months has brought up for me.....
If you are feeling this at all then commit now to feeling better and this week try to:
β¨ disconnecting from the phone 2 hours before bed
β¨ not reach for the phone (social media) until weβve been awake and had time to do a morning routine in peace
β¨ return back to a gratitude practice
β¨ schedule INTENTIONAL time to reconnect with friends via zoom, or even those we live with .... but without our phones. (Pro-tip: suggest they do the same and each of you have powerful no phone moments!)
β¨ find beauty in why we love social like sharing pictures or getting daily inspo dose.... and tap into it elsewhere like a camera or a magazine!
β¨ spend time alone in though/reflection not muted by social noise.
I hope these tools can help some of you who might be struggling like me with social media anxiety and comparisons. Be compassionate to you!
