Truth be told I wasn’t even sure if I wanted an engagement party. I wanted to focus on having intimate time with family and Trevor to celebrate our engagement. But because we didn’t get to celebrate right away when we did get engaged, ultimately when Trevor and I sat down and thought about it we realized we really did want to have that moment with friends and loved ones.

Unfortunately there were of course a lot of people who weren’t able to be there with us. With Trevor and I both not being from Toronto originally it made no matter what we did a destination engagement party.

Regardless of where we did it, I knew it had to be a holiday themed, our favourite time of year. We invited our guests to wear their most sparkly attire I’m dressed up for an evening of cocktails, an intimate dinner party and of course dancing - and karaoke to Celine Dion for anyone who caught that gem on my IG stories.

In this post you’ll find all the details about my outfit, the decor, as well as the vendors that we worked with from Flowers to Catering. For decor I tried to grab a lot of things from small local businesses and Etsy designers to shop small where I could. I can’t tell you how happy I was with the results of everything and as all the decorations came in I watched all the pieces started to come together.

As an event planner in my past life I can honestly say this really is the magic of events. That rush you feel when you’re pretty certain there’s no possible way that this could ever all come together…. and then all of a sudden it does. The magic… the sparkle. And just in time for the real magic of the event - the people, their love, their celebration, their hugs and their intimate moments - they shine.

I feel so blessed that we were able to celebrate our love with the people we love most.

If you’re not sure about having an engagement party I can tell you one thing, it only makes you even more excited for the wedding. Yes the wedding will bring about more stress, I am certain of that, but I can also say that the love we felt from each of our friends was overwhelming. Our hearts filled with joy and warmth after such a time of hardship and separation, it really was like anything I’ve ever experienced.
